Why did Spotify, Deezer and Soundcloud unite?
The biggest players in the digital music industry Spotify, Deezer, and SoundCloud ceased to be competitors.
The leaders of these companies, including 7digital, France’s Qobuz and market intelligence platform Sound charts, have created the Digital Music Europe (DME) alliance. The mission of Alliance is promoting the success of European streaming and music services to politicians. As a result, it will be easier for European artists to increase their fan bases and make the music promotion.
According to Olivia Regnier, Spotify’s director of EU regulatory affairs, the policy-makers have to provide the more innovation in the Europian music sector. The European Commission currently investigating the proposals of upgrade copyright legislation and cross-border.
Besides the Alliance will work with European policy-makers to build a lawmaking and regulatory base that supports the increase of digital music, and brings profit to both artists and users.
